The creature stalks flocks of sheep, killing lambs and mysteriously removing all their bones, according to a member of the farming family who e-mailed Far Shores on August 12 with details of these attacks. He says that judging by the carcass remains the animal responsible must be large, and when observed under a spotlight its eyes shine green.
Scratch and teeth marks discovered on the backs of the dead animals are such as to leave the skin in a pulpy state, according to our witness. The signs are "of very big jaws and very sharp and powerfull teeth," having been employed in the attack, he observed.
The animal moves swiftly and "too quickly for a dog or a fox," we are told.
Could this creature be a puma?
The beast is known for selectively hunting out its quarry and will regularly ignore other nearby sheep in order to reach the animal it wants.
A hunter of some 20 years has told the family that he has never seen anything like this before, and warned that they face a very serious situation unless the creature can be identified and caught or destroyed.
