What's hairy, about six to seven feet tall, hunched and walks like a very old man? According to one witness in a forest at the southern end of the Malay peninsular, it's the Johor Bigfoot.
Recent sightings and creature tracks have been well documented here on FarShores and some researchers are convinced that this latest furor is all about the real thing. But is it?
According to Asia Paranormal Investigators (API) Charles Goh, who has visited the area while recording and documenting eyewitness sightings on the group's website [ www.api.sg/research/MYbigfoot/BF.htm ], there are a number of plausible explanations for the creature.
In addition to his belief that a small group of roaming reported Bigfoot might well be explained as being orang utan's, additionally some of the recent unidentified footprints found could have been made by the Sun Bear - an animal indigenous to Malaysia.
"I added some explainations on how a Sunbear could have created the 19
by 11 inch footprint found in Kota Tinggi. It is actually a double print
caused by both the front paw and hind paw coming to rest at the same spot
when they walk. I went to the zoo and videotaped sunbears walking.
"All other signs, like broken branches at ground level and at 4 meters
height, all point to signs of a Sunbear. Sunbear make their day nest at up
to 7 metres [above ground-fs]. They like to eat off the shoots of Palm oil plants.
"Kampung Lukut, where both Vincent Chow and the
foreign media group found their footprints, is a low-lying plantation area
infested with pigs and cows. Those of pigs looked remarkable like one toeprint
of the Bigfoot cast.
"There are broken twigs and branches, trails and single hooves footprints
that remarkably resembled in some, a 4 or 5 toed bigfoot prints, depending
how you want to arrange the hundreds of pig prints found there. I did not
have a good camera man with me last week so didn't get good shots.
"Here is some photos of pig hooves. Do you think it is possible it could
attribute to the Bigfoot print? Frankly, I find that the discovery of single
print can't be taken as a Bigfoot foot print yet as it can be produced in a
number of ways naturally. They will need to find a second set.
"I am disappointed that the news report did not mention about the animals and the
many trails and broken branches from the small trees and bushes that can be
easily found there."
