For a while in the 1970s, a kangaroo was supposed to be hopping around Waukesha County and its environs. Years later, a very large catlike creature was supposedly stalking through area woods. And, more recently, potential gubernatorial candidates have been popping up all over the place.
But an emu in a Burger King drive-through? And not ordering any fries? That is pretty rare, even for southeastern Wisconsin. Nevertheless, an emu - a close relative of the ostrich and the kiwi and hardly a native to the area - did show up in Palmyra the other day.
Before capture, it ran through the local Burger King drive-through, fueling all sorts of new Whopper jokes, no doubt, before hightailing it down Highway 59 with the local constabulary in pursuit.
To the constabulary's credit, the authorities did their jobs well, corralling the bird without injuries to anyone and then giving it a temporary home.
Under those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, chalk this up under crazy - and to a local tradition of strange sightings.
It Gets Weird in Wisconsin
There have been strange sightings in the past.
