Second crop circle formation found in Huron County
Less than two weeks have passed since a crop circle formation was found outside Hensall and a new formation has been discovered in Huron County.
Because of its timing and proximity to the Hensall formation, Joanna Emery, of the Canadian Crop Circle Research Network, said that she initially thought the report of a circle south of Cranbrook would be a hoax.
However, when Emery got to the site near Brussels, she said she discovered expulsion cavities (holes where steam has burst through crop stalks when heated) on the swollen nodes of the crop.
Emery said the circle has a good swirl pattern and while there was some damage, she said it could have been caused by the weather.
The formation may be a simple circle, but the researcher said that it is not uncommon to have single circles, especially in the United Kingdom.
Jack Knight, whose son Steve owns the field, said he discovered the circle around 9:30 a.m. last Thursday morning.
He said he noticed something in the field as he drove past and took a back lane down the field to further investigate. He added he walked around the outside of the circle to see if anyone had left footprints but he could find none.
“If it was man-made, they had to come in by helicopter,” said James Knight. Since the circle was discovered, he added there have been more than 300 visitors to the sight.
“I wouldn’t doubt if there are more out there (in Huron County),” said Emery, adding Huron County may become a hot spot for circle activity.
Because the wheat combining season is nearing completion, Emery said reports of circles in corn fields may begin.
