Since the late 1960s, a beast described as part-goat, part-man has terrorized thrill-seeking high school students from Maryland to Texas.(Source: The Waco Tribune-Herald (Texas) / By Brian Anderson - June 19 1998)Locally, Goatman is said to inhabit the area surrounding a bridge between Ross and Tokio in northern McLennan County. Others have claimed to see the hairy, horned monster wandering the banks of Lake Brazos in East Waco. No photographs or other evidence has surfaced as proof of the Goatman's existence. Apparently, he's a bit sheepish.
Despite his shy nature, the hoofed Houdini gets around. In addition to his McLennan County home, the monster is said to maintain a residence at a low-water crossing south of Cleburne in Johnson County. Visitors to the shores of Lake Worth in Tarrant County have also reported sightings.
In 1969, a group of people reported that their car was attacked during a visit to Lake Worth near Fort Worth, according to a Goatman-related story on the website for "Strange Magazine." Four police units were dispatched to the scene, but nothing was found. However, a long scratch reportedly caused by the Goatman's sharp claws was left on the victims' car.
The official Goatman website claims the monster has yet to take any human lives but has snuffed out many a family dog.
