MYSTERY MUCK FALLS FROM CHICAGO SKIES

CHICAGO, IL -- Residents in a Chicago suburb had to cope not only with sleet and ice Monday morning but a whole different kind of mess from above. A warning up front -- this story is not for the squeamish when you consider the disgusting mess which came raining into this Lisle neighborhood sometime Monday.

Lisle resident Janet Courtney says "it looked like yellow spots with particles." Residents believe an aircraft dumped its lavatory over their neighborhood. The evidence somewhat faded today, but vivid in neighbors' photos from Monday in yards on rooftops seemingly just about everywhere, stretching all the way from Warrenville Road to Ogden Avenue.

Janet Courtney says "when we noticed it on the roof and sprayed across everyone's yards then we became suspicious."

Lisle resident Sue Clark says "my concern then was that, you know ...is this something that we're seeing just today because of the snow? Or is this something that happens a lot?"

Lisle police confirm they are investigating. However, representatives of the primary federal agency which would look into the matter say they are not necessarily convinced.

Indeed, the FAA says when airliners dump sewage it's usually accompanied by the tell-tale blue ice and that's not present here. They suggest it might have been a flock of birds.

Janet Courtney says "this was nothing like that. This showed up bright yellow, in multiple patches all over people's yards and rooftops."

There's more: this woman's husband heard something hit the roof with a big thud at about 5 o'clock Monday morning.

Lisle resident Colleen Munch says "being that he was upstairs, you know, under the roof he heard it."

Whatever it is, there is one conclusion that is almost inescapable.

Janet Courtney says "it's very you know, disgusting and offensive.

Colleen Munch says "it is mysterious. It is very mysterious."
