(Original headline: STRANGE LIGHTS SPOTTED FLOATING ABOVE VILLAGE )
Strange lights have been seen in the skies above Westbury-sub-Mendip. A village resident has contacted the Wells Journal saying that while enjoying a summer evening in the garden she, her husband and friends saw a very bright orange light streaming across the sky.
She said: "It was quite big and appeared to be a ball of fire.
"We could definitely see flames at the back of it as we watched through binoculars.
"Almost immediately a second similar object appeared from the same direction, the north-west.
"This also travelled a similar distance before disappearing into the night sky.
"As we watched a further nine or 10 of these objects continued to appear on the horizon and then fly across the sky above us.
"Some of them came as far as directly above us, while others continued right across the arch of the sky.
"We could not tell whether they were disappearing into the cloud or burning themselves out.
"We also noticed that at least two of them dropped something dark which floated towards the ground as they faded out."
FS comment: About three weeks ago I received a transatlantic call [reverse charges, I might add!] from a friend of mine who lives on a hill overlooking the nearby city of Wells, Somerset. It was 03:00hrs local time for him and he was chilling out swinging in a hammock on his backyard porch. Above him were a trio of red, yellow and green lights, formed in the shape of a triangle. These lights were clearly rising and falling soundlessly in the night sky during our conversation. He wasn't smoking at the time so I can arrive at no apparent explanation.
