Rodrigo Fuenzalida, president of the Association of UFO Research Chile (Aion), said the sighting occurred in the early hours of Sunday [Feb 17], at about 02.00 hours (05.00 GMT) on the road from the town of Vilches Altos, 260 kilometres east of Santiago.

"Surprisingly, the UFO was clearly visible above the treetops," said Fuenzalida.

He said that also with him at the time were Colonel Ariel Sánchez, director of the Committee for receipt of Unidentified Flying Object Reports (Cridovni), the official agency of the Uruguayan Air Force UFO research.

As well as Dr. Anthony Choy, a founding member of the Research Office of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (OIFAA) of the Peruvian Air Force and Max Hernandez, Telecommunications Engineering, and director of the "Radar" Project.

"The spherical body reddish and orange, began to make movements in different angles and lasted for about seven minutes until it disappeared beyond a few trees," added Fuenzalida.

He explained that the next day they were able to rule out an aircraft as being responsible and also any celestial body.

The sighting occurred in the context of the inauguration of the so-called "Primera Ruta Ufológica de Chile," which was opened a few days ago in the municipality of San Clemente, by Mayor Juan Rojas Vergara.

Expertos en ufología de Uruguay, Perú y Chile avistaron un Objeto Volador No Identificado (OVNI) en la localidad cordillerana de Vilches Altos, en la zona central de Chile.

Según relató hoy Rodrigo Fuenzalida, presidente de la Agrupación de Investigaciones Ovnilógicas de Chile (Aion), el avistamiento se produjo en la madrugada de este domingo cerca de las 02.00 horas (05.00 GMT) en la carretera de la localidad de Vilches Alto, a 260 kilómetros al este de Santiago.

"Sorpresivamente, y por sobre las copas de unos árboles un Objeto Volador No identificado, se hizo visible", dijo Fuenzalida.

Indicó que junto a él también estaban el coronel Ariel Sánchez, director del Comité de recepción de Informes de Objetos Voladores No identificados (Cridovni), entidad oficial de la Fuerza Aérea Uruguaya de investigación ovni.

Además del Doctor Anthony Choy, miembro fundador de la Oficina de Investigación de Fenómenos Aéreos No identificados (OIFAA) de la Fuerza Aérea Peruana y Max Hernández, Ingeniero en Telecomunicaciones y director del Proyecto "Radar" de Aion.

"El cuerpo esférico de color rojizo y anaranjado, comenzó a realizar movimientos en distintos ángulos y su duración fue por sobre los siete minutos hasta que desapareció tras unos árboles", agregó Fuenzalida.

Explicó que al día siguiente averiguaron si había sobrevolado algún avión por la zona, hecho que fue descartado por fuentes oficiales y tampoco había un cuerpo celeste en la posición en la que se apareció el objeto volador no identificado.

"Fue descartada la instancia de algún avión, como también algún cuerpo celeste que estuviera en esa posición y no había absolutamente nada", subrayó.

El avistamiento se produjo en el marco de la inauguración de la llamada "Primera Ruta Ufológica de Chile", que se inauguró hace unos días en el municipio de San Clemente, por el alcalde Juan Rojas Vergara.
