Sightings of unidentified flying objects in Cyprus have soared over the last year, with at least two seen over the past few weeks.
Last Saturday, a British couple in Paralimni reported a series of reddish circular lights which could be seen for about ten minutes in the skies – their experience was also witnessed by dozens of other people.
Two days later, a local man sent an account to the Famagusta Gazette, outlining his brief encounter with a UFO.
“I was on Larnaca beach on Tuesday 8th July at around 8pm having a swim with my family when I saw a sphere-like object glowing orange-yellowish flying very low and it had a tail behind it,” the account said.
“First I thought it was a falling star but it was too low for a star and it was flying parallel to the sea. Many other tourists saw it and we were all amazed. The object made no sound but it was flying faster than sound”.
Every year, hundreds of people in Cyprus report strange lights performing impossible manoeuvres that traditional earth-bound aircraft, could never accomplish and it is about time we admitted that UFOs exist. The proof is undeniable.
Sadly, UFOs are laughed off because of the lunatic fringe who are attracted to the subject and because the media cannot bring themselves to take the subject seriously.
However, it seems that at least one government is finally open to the idea that we are not alone, with Japan's chief government spokesman saying last year UFOs do exist.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura told reporters he believed they were "definitely" real.
And the Ministry of Defence itself has come to the conclusion that UFOs do exist, but are not spaceships.
It's a pity that no one takes it seriously.
