FRENCHMAN CAPTURES GIANT UFO's DESCENT

Michel Saint-Marc, a retired resident of Tournefeuille, then called his wife and immediately took up his camera, always at hand. He had time to take two shots, unfortunately with a wide-angle setting. The machine had stopped abruptly.

"It was brilliant," says Michel Saint-Marc. It had small black dots on its side, like portholes. In my opinion it was 5 or 600 metres away from me and about as big as a bus. After a few seconds the object returned as quickly it came, this time toward Portet and always with a whistle(?). A red light appeared below it.

For Michel Saint-Marc, movement, speed, noise, does not represent what would be expected of normal planes, a weather balloon, rockets, or an atmospheric phenomenon.

Curiously, for several weeks strange comments were made just about everywhere in France; the most spectacular have been reported in early May on the island of Yeu by several witnesses including a private airplane pilot. An observation that had led, in fact, to the visit of Jacques Patenet, engineer and head of the Group of Studies and Information on Unidentified Aerospace Phenomena (Geipan). Michel Saint-Marc would obviously be happy to meet with other witnesses of his observation. Although contacted, the police did not report having received evidence of the phenomenon yesterday morning.

«Il faisait si chaud dans la nuit de dimanche à lundi que je n'arrivais pas à dormir. Je me suis alors mis à la fenêtre de ma chambre à coucher et j'ai regardé le ciel, et attendant que le sommeil revienne… Mais il n'est pas revenu et pour cause. Au bout d'une demi-heure, j'ai entendu un gros sifflement et j'ai vu un objet descendant du ciel à vive allure. De vert, il est devenu violet. Il venait de la direction de Léguevin. J'avais le cœur qui battait très fort… »

Michel Saint-Marc, un habitant de Tournefeuille, retraité de la Semvat, a alors appelé son épouse qui a constaté à son tour le phénomène et pris immédiatement son appareil photo, toujours à portée de main. Il a eu le temps de réaliser deux clichés malheureusement avec un réglage grand angle. L'engin s'était arrêté brutalement. « Il était brillant, raconte Michel Saint-Marc, il avait, avec des petits points noirs sur le côté, comme des hublots. À mon avis il était à 5 ou 600 mètres de moi et devait être aussi gros qu'un autobus ». Au bout de quelques secondes, l'objet est reparti aussi rapidement qu'il était venu, cette fois en direction de Portet, et toujours avec son sifflement caractéristique. Une lueur rouge était apparue en dessous de lui.

Pour Michel Saint-Marc, le déplacement, la vitesse, le bruit, ne correspondent pas à un engin volant habituel : avion, ballon-sonde, fusées, ni à un phénomène atmosphérique.

Curieusement, depuis plusieurs semaines des observations étranges sont faites un peu partout en France, la plus spectaculaire ayant été relevée début mai à l'île d'Yeu par plusieurs témoins dont un pilote d'avion privé. Une observation qui avait motivé d'ailleurs le déplacement de Jacques Patenet, ingénieur, responsable du Groupe d'études et d'informations sur les phénomènes aérospatiaux non identifiés (Geipan). Michel Saint-Marc serait évidemment heureux de rencontrer d'autres témoins de son observation. Contactés, les gendarmes ne signalent pas, pour leur part, avoir reçu des témoignages du phénomène d'hier matin.
