A ufo spotter says he is bidding to expose the mysteries behind crop circles and their links to unidentified flying objects.

Alan Foster, aged 42, of Meare, near Glastonbury, has been compiling information on crop formations and UFOs for 30 years and his work has taken him to 70 countries and he has worked at more than 30 US military bases. It is his "personal quest".

For six years he has been sharing his experiences on the lecture circuit visiting community groups across the country.

Mr Foster said: "It was April 1973, when I was returning from a church confirmation service when I had a UFO encounter. It was in a village and completely silent.

"I could see something with lots of lights flying perhaps 200 yards completely silently, It was quite unusual.

"There was something in that the craft came over the village in one direction and the engine was off. The craft followed by silently, the village was in complete darkness." Mr Foster claims information is not getting out about UFOs because Governments are sitting on it.

He said: "The US military is fully aware of UFOs and its reality, look at Area 51. It continues to happen all over the world in remote areas and crop circles are part of this. Scientists are hiding this information from the people.

"We have the Freedom of Information Act in Britain and there is a 30-year delay before any information is released. There is the Roswell incident in 1947 where a UFO crashed, there were a number of witnesses to it."

Mr Foster has a catalogue of pictures from crop formations, some of which he showed to the Western Gazette, and says are so technically advanced, they could not have been hoaxes. He also claims there have been certain cases of villages having blackouts because of the effects of magnetic fields.
