(Source: North Wales Chronicle - July 3 1998)Last week yet another Bangor resident has phoned in to say that both she and her husband spotted the now infamous Beast of Bangor over six years ago. "We had forgotten about it until we saw the article in the Chronicle", said Mrs Williams."I remember my husband and I were walking along a path next to trees in the Eithinog woods, when we spotted something in front of us, it was ginger coloured and was bigger than a cat", she said. "We kept it to ourselves until now, but it looks like others have seen something there as well. I would hate to think this animal could be in danger if and when the building work starts, it wouldn't hurt to investigate I'm sure", she added.
But in a Chronicle interview last week, Eithinog resident Iori Williams, who retires from his post as caretaker of Friars School next month, claims that the mysterious beast is in fact a Polecat, and has been living in the Eithinog area for years. "I often see it in summer, especially in the mornings when I open the school", he said. "Although because I'm known as a bit of a storyteller , nobody has believed me really!", he added.
Can anyone confirm that the mysterious animal lurking in Eithinog woods is in fact a Polecat? If you can shed any more light on this saga, then please contact us, here at the Chronicle.
